Biography

I was born in 1963 in Amsterdam.
I have been a photographer since the late 1980s, in recent years I have learned other ways to express myself as an artist.
When I started I had learned the trade by assisting various photographers, ao Erwin Olaf and Rineke Dijkstra. My career started in 1988 as a journalistic photographer. I found my own subject intuitively at the time; the nightlife - especially at the legendary Club RoXY. From 1989 I photographed everything and everyone in club life. In the second half of the 90s I got an objective view, I photographed nightlife but now for newspapers and magazines, in my photos I developed more of an eye for concept, composition and detail.
After 2000 I was looking for a conceptual way of working with subjects. In Cuba and other countries I took pictures - of people on the street at night - that touched me deeply. For me this was the beginning of my art practice.
In 2010 I started studying Philosophy at the UvA, where I completed my propaedeutic year. In 2022 I graduated from the Rietveld Academy.
I have made several series (Wachten I en II, Picture me, Bloemen van Osdorp, Les Déesses de Vélo) and I have published the photobooks Uit, De ziel krijgt voeten, Festivalland and Het RoXY Archief 1988-1999.
